In 1986 she stepped out of the classroom and into history. As part of a radical new approach by NASA, she was to be the first civilian teacher in space. Unfortunately her mission on Space Shuttle Challenger - mission STS-51L on the 28th of January 1986 ended tragically. Her mission as a teacher though continues to this day. Christa still inspires countless teachers and children and at StarDome I think its important that this should continue. My mission as astronomer and presenter in StarDome is to inspire generations, old and new to take up space science and astronomy at all levels and to be inspired and enthused by their time in StarDome - something that happens time after time.
