UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON

OBSERVATORY

Thanks to Dave Eagle for taking this image

Recently myself and my good friend Dave Eagle headed for a private tour around the University Of London Observatory.

We had a fantastic time looking at telescopes and instruments old and new. Thanks to the fantastic staff at UCL for all their help.

The University of London Observatory is a hands-on teaching observatory and is part of the Astrophysics Group at the universities department of Physics & Astronomy

The Observatory site is equipped with five permanently mounted telescopes, two computer classrooms and a specialist astronomy library. In addition to practical observing, astronomy students at UCL are expertly trained in data reduction, application of astrophysical theory, and computer-based astronomy.

ULO remains active in astronomical research. They have have recently observed and measured the transits of several extra solar planets, and plan to extend their research programme with a large robotic telescope, for which funding is currently underway.
